This course introduces the basic tools of analysis, comprehension, reading and enjoyment of Cultural Heritage focusing on aspects related to Cultural Tourism.

• Learning Objectives
The course aims to provide students with a framework of knowledge for the acquisition of tools and methods for analyzing, understanding and the conscious use of cultural heritage.
It will visually present: artifacts of an artistic nature, represent the history of civilization, and in context, represent the local, regional and international areas.
The reading and interpretation of the works of art will be analyzed in relation to the historical context, geographical and cultural affiliation.
The students will find hidden meanings within the relationships between artists and patrons. And they will examine what resources were allocated by the company who purchased the art, and the techniques used to employ the artists.
Students should be able to operate by noting similarities and / or differences between the languages and stylistic form of the different ages we considered.

• Teaching methods
The course makes use of the following teaching methods: lectures with the help of iconographic material, analysis and discussion of case studies, and exercises and guided tours.
The teaching methodology aims to integrate knowledge acquired by students in the arts, in geography, and in economy and tourism. The students will seek to develop the ability to forge links with other disciplines, noting that the work of art flows together with the aspects and components of the different fields of knowledge. This methodology will promote the activation of a deep interest and responsability in the artistic heritage and landscape, weather it be local or not. It is based on the awareness of its aesthetic value, and its historical, cultural and economic components.

The student is required to pass a written test and to present a thematic study or an individual artistic itinerary.

The Gothic universe
The comparisons between architecture and sculpture, Romanesque and Gothic
The fifteenth-century Italian Renaissance
The Flemish Art
The art of the Catholic Reform. Europe of the sixteenth century
The Baroque. The Netherlands and Spain in the seventeenth century
The late seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in Piedmont, Italy and Europe
The art between Enlightenment and Romanticism. The study of ancient and the birth of archeology
The nineteenth century in France and in Europe

The second part – Cultural Heritage

The students will study about the protection, conservation and enhancement of the art and analize those institutions responsible for the safekeeping of the art.
