Module I

 

Educational aims
The management of tourism companies requires a decisional process able to integrate Accounting methodologies and Managerial Economics models with the knowledge of the activities that characterize firms providing a wide range of services. In view of this aim, the course examines the basic elements for the definition of firms policy for strategic design in specific market areas, with a particular focus on operating activities and on costs advantages.

PROGRAMME
-    What is a firm?
-    Relation between production value and remuneration of production factors
-    The firm as a productive unit: input, output, real and financial aspects
-    Concept of profit (and value creation)
-    Distribution of information and incentive mechanisms
-    Fundamentals of competitive strategy
-    Value creation and competitive advantage
-    Competitive strategy and value creation
-    Competitive strategy and value creation in tourism firms
-    Degree of operating leverage
-    Contribution margin and decision analysis
-    Make or buy decisions
-    Costs and optimization costs of operating activities in firms

PREREQUISITES
Students can effectively attend lessons with an appropriate knowledge of Business Administration’s principles.

FORMATIVE AIMS
With a focus on hospitality industry and tourism sectors the course aims to transfer innovative methodologies to analyse the critical issues in these sectors. The teaching activity concerns the following units: a. the first unit relates to the diversification processes and strategies in the hospitality sector and to understand crisis management; b. the second unit  aims to create innovative competences to market and manage tourism and cultural products.
